Adding PRN Protocols to Residents
As good practice, a care home should have a clear record of all the necessary information for any PRN (when required) medication. Clear records enable staff to make informed decisions about when to administer. Adding a PRN protocol allows the team to enter additional information about the medication and how it is to be administered. Use this guide to add PRN protocols to a resident’s profile, the information will be visible during the Med Round.
- From the Home Screen, click Residents/Orders
- Select a Resident
- Click the Info Orders tab
- Click Pick from List
- Tick the appropriate protocols that you wish to add
- Click Ok
- The selected protocols will then appear as a list
- You can add ‘adhoc’ PRN Protocols by clicking the Add button, instead of Pick from List
- This will activate the lower half of the screen and you will be able enter your PRN Protocol
- Add the Category and then add the description in the Details field
- If you want the information to appear on the MAR sheet and the Med Round, tick the relevant boxes
- Click Save
