Managing Red Flagged Orders (Advanced)
From time to time your pharmacy may send you resident or order information with some missing detail. Residents and orders where that is true will display with a red flag and a warning message. You will need to address the missing data and clear the red flag before proceeding.
This article outlines some of the common red flags that you might come across.
Gender Not Specified:
This occurs when the pharmacy has not entered a Gender for the resident in their PMR system. The profile will default to Male and the flag will display until cleared.
Variable Dose Detected:
The drug has a variable dose. The red flag is highlighting the medication has been marked as ‘sliding scale’ to allow the lower/higher dosage to be given.
Unable To Determine scheduled Dosage:
An “x” was used by the Pharmacy to indicate what time of day a medication should be given but not how much is to be given at that time, usually used for unmeasurable items i.e. creams/gels. The system defaults this to ONE dose unit to be given at this time.
Error: No Admin Times Defined
Error: Schedule to be confirmed. Please Enter A Valid Schedule:
The Pharmacy have sent this over as ‘Care Home to Schedule’ as the dosage instruction does not state how to schedule the item. Warfarin will always be sent as ‘Care Home to Schedule’ as will items which require both a Routine and PRN schedule i.e. Lorazepam ‘Take ONE in the MORNING, An additional dose can be given after ONE hour if required’.
Pharmacy Has DC’d The Order, But It Is Still Active Due To An End Date Override
This red flag occurs when the end date has been overridden on the current order by the care setting and the new order sent from the pharmacy smartflips but has an end date prior to the override date. Clicking the blue pencil by the end date will display the date the pharmacy has set.
